About the Perioperative Nursing Course
Course Description
Provides entry-level knowledge and skills required for the role of perioperative nurses. Includes an introduction to perioperative nursing through all phases of surgery, surgical asepsis, surgical patient safety, the foundations of surgery, and surgical anesthesia. Preparation for students for entry into the perioperative nursing specialty. After completing this course, the student will be ready to function as an entry-level perioperative nurse.
Enrollment Limitations:
Prospective students must have evidence of completing the nursing courses for advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing and advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing Lab offered in the Registered Nursing Program or an active Registered Nursing license.
Program Length
The Perioperative Nursing course (NURS 219) is a 4 unit (pass/no pass) course. Total of 36 hours lecture and 108 hours laboratory.
Program Completion
Upon completion of the Perioperative Nursing course students will receive an Occupational Skills Certificate and will be ready to function as an entry-level perioperative nurse.
