If you are new here, welcome! If you are returning to our office, you may have noticed that we have a new name (and a new website and email address). At Mental Health and Wellness, we are working to address the mental health needs of the campus. Take a moment to check out our revamped website to learn more about the services that we offer. If you have any questions, our amazing team is here to help. No question is too big or too small. If you are curious about our space, don’t hesitate to stop by our office in D-203 to learn more, and meet our team in person.

And please, keep an eye on this space. We will be having new information in this space from our diverse team of therapists, highlighting specific topics in mental health in the coming weeks and months.

What is Therapy?

Confidentiality

All services are confidential. Confidentiality means that therapists have a legal obligation to keep what is shared in therapy private. This confidentiality is essential to helping people build trust in therapy, because therapy is often a space where people share things they've never shared before.

Our ethical code does include some limitations to our confidentiality. The limitations to confidentiality are connected to care of the student or of endangered populations (minors, dependent adults, elders) when there is a significant risk of safety to the client or others. 

Therapy, also known as counseling or psychotherapy, is a collaborative process between a mental health professional and an individual seeking support. It provides a safe, confidential environment where individuals can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and work towards personal growth and healing. 

Therapy can address a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Relationship issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Academic and career concerns

There are many different therapeutic approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and more. Each of these methods provides tools to help individuals understand their emotions, develop coping strategies, and make positive changes in their lives.

Those seeking therapy may expect to engage in open conversations, setting specific goals, and reflecting on their experiences. It’s important to remember that therapy is not about giving advice, but rather facilitating personal insight and empowering students to make informed decisions about their lives.
