Ms. Denise Romero

Ms. Denise Romero CDA, RDA, OA, M.A, .currently works as a full-time in the dental assisting program for Pasadena City College, In addition to her role as a classroom educator Ms. Romero consults with dental offices, teaching an eight-hour infection control course, two-hour Dental Practice Act course and orthodontic assistant permit course. Mrs. Romero has 19 years of clinical experience in dentistry and has worked in variety of settings, including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and dental supply sales.She currently teaches in both dental assisting and dental hygiene courses. Active in her professional associations, Mrs. Romero served on the Board of Directors for the California Association of Dental Assisting Teachers (CADAT) for 3 years. She is involved in the American Dental Assistants Association. She also served as vice chair for the Dental Board of California's Dental Assisting Council and as a subject matter expert in orthodontics for the Dental Board of California. She is currently serving her 3rd  term on the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) board of directors as Vice Chari. Mrs. Romero education includes: A certificate in dental assisting certificate and A.A degree at Cerritos College, Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Everest University, Designated Subject's Teaching Credential: Vocational education for the adult learner from the California State University, Long Beach, Master's degree Education Curriculum and Instruction from California State Dominguez-Hills. She is currently enrolled at the University of Southern California in the doctorate program Organizational Change and Leadership. She received the 2018 Pride Award for Educators from the American Dental Assistants Association. 

Dr. Lori Gagliardi                                                                                                          Associate Professor |


Lori Lori Gagliardi, RDA, CDA, RDH, Ed.D, graduated from Pasadena City College in 1979 with an AS degree and Certificate in Dental Assisting. She continued her education with a BS degree in Dental Hygiene from USC school of Dentistry in 1990, a Master's degree in Education and a Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership/Education, both from the University of La Verne. She recently became a fellow in the American Dental Assistants Association and received the title FADAA. Dr. Gagliardi has been active in the field of dentistry since 1979, working in private practice, chairside assistant in the dental school, public health and teaching in both dental hygiene and dental assisting courses. She also participates on the local, state and national level in areas related to dentistry, dental assisting and education as well as serving on advisory boards. Currently, Dr. Gagliardi teaches the Clinical internship and oral radiology courses in the Dental Assisting program under the School of Health Sciences at Pasadena City College and serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the Dental Assisting Learning and Education (DALE) foundation and Policy Director for the Foundation for Allied Dental Educators.

Stephanie Schmidt
Associate Professor, Tenured Full-Time Faculty |

Stephanie Schmidt, CDA, CPFDA, CRFDA, CDT, RDAEF2, FADAA, MS has had a lifelong love and connection with dentistry, having worked in small and large private dental offices as an assistant and an office manager, and also with United States military veterans in their dental clinic as a research dental assistant and dental technician. She currently volunteers part-time for a local community-based dental clinic as a Registered Dental Assistant in Extended Functions 2, providing preventive and restorative dental treatment for an underserved population. Throughout her career, Ms. Schmidt has been teaching dental assisting classes for public adult schools and community colleges. She has taught classes in dental essentials, dental radiology, dental materials, chairside assisting, RDA duties, and dental psychology. She is frequently asked to speak to state, national and international dental assisting, dental technology and dental hygiene organizations on topics including dental law, infection control and many clinically-related topics, as well as on creative teaching techniques. Ms. Schmidt participates in local, state and national dental assisting associations in various leadership capacities, reviews dental text books as a subject matter expert and volunteers as needed for local dental related community service projects, such as fluoride treatments and toothprint identification sessions for grade school children. She has authored six articles on dental topics, which were circulated in national and international publications, has a master's degree in education, holds a California Designated Subjects Teaching Credential, and has been the recent recipient of multiple awards for excellence in teaching and in dental assisting. She currently teaches full-time for the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene Programs at Pasadena City College.

Dr. Louis Fleming Jr

Dr. Fleming holds a BA from the University of California at San Diego, and received his DDS at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. He is a past Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Before coming to PCC, Dr. Fleming was on the faculty of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, and maintained a private practice in San Francisco. In 2010 Dr. Fleming completed a Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Southern California.

Anne Contreras
Adjunct Faculty |

 Anne has been in the dental profession for approximately 23 years. She received her Associates of Science Degree in Dental Assisting from Cypress College, CTE Teaching Credential from University of San Diego, earned her Baccalaureate Degree in Sociology from Chapman University and was awarded her Masters Degree in Education from the University of San Diego. 

Ms. Contreras has taught at several private colleges, high schools, adult education and community college dental assisting programs for over a decade. She teaches courses in dental materials, advanced chairside techniques, orthodontic assisting, coronal polishing, infection control, pit and fissure sealants, radiology and ultrasonic scaling. In addition to her passion of teaching students, she is also an active chairside orthodontic assistant at a private practice and BLS Health Care Provider CPR Instructor for the American Heart Association. She is a member of several dental and teacher associations and gives back to the community by volunteering at free clinics.

Ms. Contreras is a previous Subject Matter Expert, writing and editing the written portion of the Registered Dental Assisting examination and is currently serving her term as Chair on the Dental Board of California, representing dental assistants.

Professor Anita M. Bobich
BA, CDT, Program Administrator |

Professor Bobich has been teaching restorative dentistry since 1985. Prior to that she owned a dental laboratory specializing in dental ceramics and full mouth reconstructive dental prosthetics for nine years. She is board certified in two Restorative Dentistry disciplines and received her 25-year gold and diamond certification pin in 2010; in 2016 she received her 30-year pin. Professor Bobich also received a baccalaureate degree from the University of California, Loos Angeles (UCLA) where she majored in Philosophy. She studied dental technology at the Dental Technology Institute and Rancho Santiago College. She serves on the National Educators Section of the National Association of Dental Laboratories, received the Al Smith award for teaching excellence, and has been nominated numerous times for the Risser Award. She is an associate on the Board of Directors for the Advanced Restorative Institute and has a California teaching credential valid for life. Over the years, she has also participated and/or been a member or officer of numerous study clubs and professional organizations. Professor Bobich has presented at many dental conferences and meetings. She teaches dental ceramics, crown and bridge, orthodontics and pedodontics, beginning and advanced levels of anatomy, implants, digital dentistry CAD CAM, and dental laboratory management. Professor Bobich has served as the Program Administrator for Restorative Dentistry under the School of Health Sciences at Pasadena City College since 1985. She loves to travel the world and is the proud owner of an old stone cottage on the island of Rava, Croatia where she and her husband grow world class olives and make truly extra virgin cold pressed olive oil. She is loves to spend time with her grandson Joshua.

Henri G. Saghians

Mr. Henri Saghians, MSAOM, CDT. Mr. Saghians is is board certified in the specialty of Removable Partial Dentures. He received his baccalaureate degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California. He Graduated from the Pasadena City College School of Health Sciences and Department of Restorative Dentistry Majoring in the Dental Laboratory Technology Program in 2001. Mr. Saghians has worked in the Dental Laboratory Technology industry for eighteen years and owned H.G.S. Dental Lab, which offered a full array of dental laboratory services to dentists located in the San Fernando Valley. During this time, Mr. Saghians also continued his education, earning his Master’s Degree in Eastern Medicine and Herbalogy from South Baylo University in Los Angeles. In 2010, he sold his laboratory and joined the PCC Restorative Dentistry staff as a College Assistant. Within two years, he was promoted to Adjunct Instructor in the Restorative Dentistry Program and in 2014 Mr. Saghians became a full-time lead instructor where he currently teaches Anatomy of Oral and Facial Structures; Dental Materials; Removable Partial Denture Fabrication and various levels of Dental Anatomy. Upon graduating from South Baylo University in 2013, Mr. Saghians became a registered health care provider with state of California. In spare time he loves flying, he received his private pilot's license in 2007.

Alex Arouni

Mr. Arouni received his A.A. degree from Citrus College in California where he studied architecture. Mr. Arouni continued his education at Pasadena City College where he received his A.S. degree and Certificate of Achievement from the School of Health Sciences Department of Restorative Dentistry majoring in Dental Laboratory Technology having graduated in the top ten percent of his class. In 2007, he joined the PCC Dental Laboratory Technology Program as a College Assistant and quickly became an Adjunct Instructor and continues to hold that position. He has also worked in a commercial dental laboratory for several years, which has added to his ability to bring valuable practical information to the classroom. Mr. Arouni is a board certified dental laboratory technician and recognized by the National Board in the discipline of Crown and Bridge. His background is comprehensive and allows him to teach Removable Partial Dentures, Crown and Bridge, Complete Dentures, Ceramics and Orthodontics. His specific areas of interest include dental occlusion, all porcelain restorations, and digital technology. In his spare time, Mr. Arouni loves volleyball, hiking, and camping.
