Start Your Career as a Patient Intake Specialist


Our program at PCC prepares students with entry-level skills to seek employment in doctors' offices, clinics, hospitals, treatment centers, and other health-related fields. The 13-unit Occupational Skills Certificate can be completed in as little as one semester so that students may enter the workforce sooner. Labor Market Data indicates a high demand for employment opportunities. Students may return and complete the remaining courses needed to become a medical assistant.

Coursework
Patient Intake Specialist Occupational Skills Certificate consists of five (5) courses (total 13 units)

  • MA 109 - HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (1.0 Units)       
  • MA 111A - ADMINISTRATIVE MEDICAL OFFICE PROCEDURES I (4.0 Units)                                                               
  • MA 122A - CLINICAL MEDICAL OFFICE PROCEDURES I (2.0 Units)   
  • MA 127 - MEDICAL INSURANCE AND REIMBURSEMENT (3.0 Units)   
  • HLSC 115 - MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY (3.0 Units)

Courses are offered during the fall, spring, and summer sessions. 

Course Preparation: This curriculum prepares students with entry-level skills to seek employment in doctors' offices, clinics, hospitals, treatment centers, and other health-related fields. This certificate program will expose students to a process that strengthens their skills in administrative medical, medical insurance & reimbursement, and initial patient processing. These courses can be applied toward the requirements for the Certificate of Achievement in Medical Assisting, Administrative & Clinical.

Enrollment is limited to students who have completed the special application and who are randomly selected for enrollment into the program based on the limited number of seats available in the program.  Selection of students is based on criteria approved by the Pasadena City College Administration and consistent with all State and Federal Regulations. 

An Occupational Skills Certificate is awarded upon completion of all required courses with a grade of C or better.



Get Started

The application filing period for Fall enrollment is April 30 - June 30. 

The application filing period for Spring enrollment is October 1 - December 1.

 Applications are only available during the application period.
