Our program at PCC prepares you to find a job in medical offices or clinics performing administrative and clinical duties including records management, financial systems, laboratory procedures, and medical insurance billing.

  • Program Length:

    11 months for Full-time enrollment / 24 months for Part-time enrollment

  • Program Completion:

    Certificate of Achievement and eligibility for the American Association of Medical Assistants Certification Exam.

  • Program Accreditation:
    The Medical Assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB.)

    The Medical Assisting program at Pasadena City College has maintained the following five-year averages for Medical Assisting Education Board (MAERB) accreditation thresholds: 

    • 95% job placement rate for the years 2018-2022 
    • 80% retention for the years 2018-2022 
    • 82.50% certification exam passage for the years 2018-2022

What is a Medical Assistant?

A Medical Assistant is a nationally recognized multi-skilled professional who assists the physician in the medical office, clinic, or in a variety of other health care settings. As a medical assistant you will:

  • assist in caring for the sick and injured
  • perform phlebotomy
  • assist with pediatric exams
  • perform electrocardiograms
  • screen vision
  • run the lab tests
  • assist with minor surgery
  • make appointments and screen calls
  • transcribe reports
  • instruct the patient as advised by the physician
  • assist with examinations
  • complete the insurance claims
  • administer medication, upon order of the physician
  • operate the computer
  • weigh the patient
  • sterilize supplies

Get Started

The application filing period is April 18 - July 18th for fall semester enrollment, and September 15 - October 31 for Spring enrollment.  Applications are only available during the application period.
