Amplified Sound is defined as any sound that is broadcast through electronically amplified equipment or sound that is electronically enhanced. Specifically, sound is considered “amplified” if at a distance of 55 feet in front of the stage or speakers, the sound pressure level is more than 80 decibels utilizing the scale for outdoor performances.

Amplified sound is allowed only in the Quad during the College Hour.

The College Hour is a designated time: 12PM to 12:50PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is when no instruction takes place, and is the only time amplified sound (music, PA systems) are allowed outdoors.

The Office of Student Life and/or the appropriate college departments retain the right to monitor and/or limit the sound levels generated by amplification systems. If the sound is deemed to exceed the definition or is broadcasted outside the College Hour, the event’s sound system will be ordered to be dismantled by Campus Police.
