College 1 is a key component of the Pathways program.  After completing their summer orientation or Jam, all Pathways students take College 1, a 3-unit First-Year Seminar that helps students explore their goals and motivation for college and career, develop their critical reading and information literacy skills and  practice important college success behaviors.

One Book, One College

One Book, One College is PCC’s common reading program.  This campus-wide shared intellectual experience engages students, faculty, staff and managers in a conversation about a book selected for its potential to allow for a rich dialogue on our campus.  All Pathways students read the One Book, One College selection as part of their College 1 assignments.  A speaker series is developed each year around the text and the keynote event is held the day of the Pathways Student Conference, where students present their research inspired by the book.  If you would like to be part of the selection committee, please contact Cristina Salazar-Romo at cxsalazar@pasadena.edu

Resources for Educators

College 1 is designed to help students develop metacognitive problem-solving skills, improve their reading and research abilities, and employ successful life skills such as time management and goal-setting that will allow them to achieve their academic and career goals.  Lesson plans are structured to introduce success behaviors through increasingly challenging texts.
