Distance Education Recertification
PCC’s recertification requirement is a crucial part of the college’s mission to provide high-quality and equitable online courses. Recertification ensures that faculty are up-to-date with current tools, strategies and legal requirements, and that faculty training is aligned with PCC AP 4105.
To maintain eligibility to teach online, faculty are required to satisfy one pathway for recertification (outlined below) every three years. Faculty may complete that requirement at any point in the 3-year cycle. The new recertification date would be the year they complete their 4th hour towards recertification.
Certification Dates
The Distance Education Office will keep a list of recertification dates for faculty, similar to the EEO Training list, behind a Lancerpoint login.
Options For Recertification
Option 1: Complete the Peer Online Course Review process at PCC or any other CCC
Option 2: Complete 4 hours of workshops related to distance education.
The following would automatically be approved:
- CCCDECO's annual Online Teaching Conference
- Any workshops taught by DE Staff/ DE Faculty Coordinators on Flex Day or throughout the year
- Any of the @ONE facilitated workshops (a completion badge/ certificate of completion must be emailed to Distance Education):
- Engagement Strategies for Live Online Teaching and Learning
- Advanced Techniques with Canvas
- 10-10-10: Communication That Matters
- Assessment in Digital Learning
- Creating Accessible Course Content
- Introduction to Course Design
- Online Teaching & Design
- Equitable Grading Strategies
- Equity & Culturally Responsive Online Teaching
- Humanizing Online Teaching & Learning
- Introduction to Asynchronous Online Teaching & Learning
Other workshops that focus on accessibility, substantive interaction, authentic assessment, equity, etc. may count on a case-by-case basis with approval from the Distance Education Office.
If you complete an activity outside of PCC that you want to count towards your recertification obligation, you will need to complete the external training form that is available on the Vision Resource Center Welcome Page.
If certification lapses, faculty must complete the 8-week OTC course OR pass DE Equivalency for one course. Questions?
