Dear members of our PCC family –
Thank you for visiting our site. As the Director of Student Equity, it is a privilege to work with the Safe Zones Coalition in supporting our LGBTQ+ and undocumented members of our campus community. These efforts are of the utmost importance given the great talents and aspirations that students and their families bring to their pursuit of higher education, even in a current national climate that far too often undermines their rights.
I am writing this message on behalf of my colleagues in the Safe Zones Coalition and allies throughout campus because we want you to know in the most direct terms – we’ve got your back. We care for you and your families, and we are working hard to sustain and create a rich mix of services that recognize and affirm the humanity of you and your loved ones. This site is your source for information on free resources available on campus and in our communities that will help you navigate an ever-changing landscape. Please refer to these resources often, as we are constantly adding new workshops, trainings, and information that will help guide and sustain you. We are in the process of opening the Safe Zones Center in the R building, with an expected grand opening during Spring 2019. In the meanwhile, please review our ever-expanding list of allies and look for the Safe Zone decal to connect with faculty, staff, and administration throughout our Colorado, Foothill, and Rosemead campuses who are committed to listening to you and supporting you.
We recognize and value the multiple strengths that you and your loved ones contribute to our college community. Like you, we are here to stay and ready to walk alongside you on the path to reaching your educational goals.
In solidarity,
Dr. Michaela Mares-Tamayo
Director, Student Equity
