New Payroll System: Frequently Asked Questions
About the Change
In October 2026, Los Angeles County of Education is moving PCC from its current payroll system to a new system called Advantage – Human Capital Management (HCM).
The change begins with the October 2026 pay period. The first paycheck issued with the new system will be on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Employees who are currently paid on or about the 10th and 25th of each month under an Earned Salary Advance (ESA) will move to semi-monthly pay.
Your Pay
No. You will still be paid twice a month, on or about the 10th and the 25th.
No. Your total monthly pay and your total monthly deductions stay the same. The only change is how the pay and deductions are split between your two paychecks.
The current payroll system issues an ESA check which is issued on the 25th and does not include any voluntary deductions or CALPERS Retirement contributions and is calculated as half your salary.
Semi-Monthly will process two checks a month, both having half of your monthly voluntary deductions, CALPERS Retirement contributions deducted and half your salary on each check.
Your deductions are now shared across both paychecks instead of coming out of one. As a result, each paycheck may be a different amount than you are used to, even though your monthly total is the same.
Employee A earns $5,000 per month, pays $400 per month to CalPERS, and has $100 in voluntary deductions.
| Processing type | Paycheck on or about the 10th | Paycheck on or about the 25th |
|---|---|---|
| Today (ESA) | All $500 in CalPERS and voluntary deductions | No CalPERS or voluntary deductions |
| Semi-monthly | $2,500 gross – $200 CalPERS – $50 voluntary | $2,500 gross – $200 CalPERS – $50 voluntary |
This example leaves out tax withholding and other required deductions, which vary by employee.
Your monthly CalPERS contribution will be divided evenly between your two paychecks. The total amount you contribute each month does not change.
Voluntary deductions, such as supplemental insurance or tax-sheltered annuities, will also be divided evenly between your two paychecks. The monthly total stays the same.
Yes. Your current direct deposit information will carry over to the new system automatically. You do not need to re-enroll or submit a new direct deposit form.
No action is required for you to be paid. We do recommend two things:
- If you have automatic payments, bills, or transfers timed to a particular payday, check that they still work with your new paycheck amounts.
- Sign in to the new Employee Self-Service portal after October 20 so you are familiar with it before your first paycheck.
