Pasadena City College’s Academic Success Centers are still here for you! Just as most of your classes have moved to temporary remote instruction, so have PCC’s Academic Success Centers. This means that you can now request remote tutoring services. In fact, at this time this is the only way to receive tutoring at PCC. Physical success centers on PCC campuses are currently closed to students, but we are excited to offer you remote tutoring instead.

Pasadena City College’s Academic Success Centers are here to support your academic success, even and especially through this challenging time—we encourage you to take advantage of remote tutoring!

Remember to use proper netiquette when using any online service. "Netiquette" stands for network etiquette and refers to a set of guidelines for online communication.

Communicating with others

  • Behind every screen is a person. When addressing others’ comments be sure to be respectful.

  • Ask classmates for clarification if you find a post confusing or offensive.

  • An online/remote tutoring session is still a tutoring session. Anything that would be considered inappropriate in a success center is still inappropriate in a remote setting.

  • If you are having technical difficulties, please let the tutor know. They will try to help you as best as they can, but please keep in mind that you might not be able to find a solution. Patience is key.

  • Enter the tutoring sessions with any questions already prepared.

  • In general, adhere to the same standards of behavior that you would adhere to during face-to-face interaction.

Language

  • Avoid using caps when typing in the chat. (IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU’RE SCREAMING.)

  • Sarcasm, humor, and jokes don’t always translate in an online setting. If you’re concerned that a joke might be going too far, it’s best to not post it.

  • Avoid sweeping generalizations: make sure to back-up your statements with sources.

  • Review others' responses to have an understanding of key points others have already made. Be sure to add some new insight or a new topic.

  • Check for writing errors before submitting a comment or post.
