• Classified employees may apply for up to $1,000 in funding for conference travel and/or related activities, per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
  • Applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis. Once the funding is depleted, applications will not be accepted until the next fiscal year.
  • The Classified Professional Development Subcommittee seeks to support applications for conference travel funding that meet the following criteria:
    • The employee is requesting to attend a conference that is focused on topics/skills closely related to their role.
    • The employee is requesting to attend a conference where they will be presenting a workshop/session.
    • The employee did NOT receive funding through their employee association to attend this same conference in the prior academic year
  • If employee attendance at a conference is required annually as part of their role, funding request should be made through their department.
  • If multiple employees apply for funding to attend the same conference, the Subcommittee may limit funding to two employees.
  • Employees must submit a pre-approval request in Chrome River to apply for funding. Instructions to apply can be found on the Conferences and Travel page. Requests for funding should be made as early as possible, particularly those that include a cash advance.
  • Reimbursements and all supporting documents/receipts should be submitted through Chrome River within two weeks after conference travel. Instructions for how to submit an expense report can be found on the Conferences and Travel page.

Share Your Learning After the Conference

Classified employees are strongly encouraged to share out the expertise gained through conference attendance. There are multiple ways this can occur:

  • Facilitate a workshop on Professional Development Day and/or Classified Day
  • Serve on a shared governance and/or hiring committee
  • Take the lead on a project/initiative in their home department
