PASADENA-- Pasadena City College has approved the purchase of three additional properties in Rosemead, significantly expanding its plans to re-establish a permanent satellite campus in the city.
At its March 11 meeting, the Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of properties on Valley Boulevard, Ivar Avenue, and Bentel Avenue. The properties are located in Area 6 of the District, which includes parts of Rosemead, San Gabriel, El Monte, Temple City, and Arcadia.
“We’re not just building a campus—we’re building opportunity,” said Board of Trustees Vice President Ryan Liu, who represents Area 6. “This expansion, which essentially doubles the size of our planned Rosemead campus, reflects our commitment to expanding access to quality education, job training, and socioeconomic mobility for future generations of San Gabriel Valley residents.”
The properties are just the latest investment in Rosemead. In 2024, the district purchased properties along the same stretch of the city. The properties are near Pasadena City College’s former satellite campus on Rosemead Boulevard, which closed in June 2023 at the conclusion of a lease agreement.
“Area 6 is a vital part of our community college district,” said PCC President José A. Gómez. “We’re returning to Rosemead. And we’re coming back strong.”
With these purchases, PCC’s presence in Rosemead will be even greater than it was before. The new acquisition includes 52,000 square feet of land.
“These purchases will help expand our capacity to serve students in Rosemead and surrounding areas,” said Board of Trustees President Steven Gibson. “We look forward to creating a satellite campus in Rosemead that will bring a PCC education to every student who wants one.”
Since its founding over 100 years ago, Pasadena City College (pasadena.edu) has been
a beacon of higher education for residents of the West San Gabriel Valley. Today,
PCC educates more than 22,000 students in a wide range of programs for degrees and
job-training certificates. The college is a three-time Aspen Institute Top Ten Community
College and consistently leads the state for transfer to the UC and CSU systems, as
well as public and private universities around the nation.
