The Annual Juried Student Exhibition 2020

Each year the Pasadena City College art gallery holds a student art competition that is open to all students who have enrolled in a course in the Visual Arts and Media Studies division that year. A guest juror, typically a distinguished gallery director, curator or art critic, selects and installs a show from the submitted artwork, and awards cash prizes to outstanding student artists. Like many traditions, the PCC Annual Juried Student Exhibition this year had to revision itself for an online socially distant exhibition. Students were asked to submit up to three works through an online submission process. This year's exhibition was juried by digital artist and independent curator Jody Zellen.

Best in Show

Five artists were selected to receive Best in Show awards based on their overall contribution to the exhibition not just for individual artworks.

This year's Best in Show awards go to: Shichen Wu, Emily Perez, Kiet Giang, Matt Marker, Monica Moreno.

Shichen Wu

My name is Shichen Wu.I live in Arcadia, CA. I major in Psychology at PCC. I plan to create a gallery of my art for my home.

Emily Perez

Emily Perez is a multidisciplinary artist from Los Angeles, California whose main practices are in ceramics and painting. She is currently expanding her expertise in ceramics at PCC as a studio arts major with the intention of transferring and achieving a BFA.

Kiet Giang

My name is Danny Giang, I am from Rosemead. I am studying Graphic Design at PCC. After PCC I would like to go straight to the work field if possible, and study for a higher degree at the same time. instagram.com/real.lak.art

Matt Marker

My name is Matthew Marker. I live in Arcadia and am a father of two. I’ve worked in the Business Management field for the past 9 years. I am pursuing a Graphic Design certificate at PCC and I want to continue to make my own art and also design for companies in the future. IG of artwork: @markerart123

Monica Moreno

My name is Monica Moreno. I was born in Los Angeles and raised in San Diego, California. I'm studying Jewelry/Metal Fabrication and Bookkeeping at PCC.
