On-the-job Training + Select a Workforce Pathway

Choose one or more pathways: Baker, Cook, Culinary Manager, and Hospitality Manager

The Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where you can obtain paid work experience, receive progressive wage increases, classroom instruction, and a portable, nationally-recognized credential. Registered Apprenticeships are industry-vetted, approved, and validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a State Apprenticeship Agency. Successful apprentice completers may earn both college and apprentice certificate(s) of achievement. Those who complete required general education classes may earn an associate of science degree in hospitality management or an associate degree for transfer in hospitality management.

Certificate Highlights

  • Apprentice Recruitment and Selection. Both college program staff and employers advertise each position among their networks or incumbent employees.

  • Apprentice Perspectives. Apprentices like the program because it provides them with a free college education, on-the-job training in multiple hospitality occupations, and paid work experience.

  • Employer Perspectives. Employers appreciate that the apprentices are engaged and productive members of their teams.

  • Flexibility in program implementation is helpful. Employers have the option of adding more specific skill checklists that are customized to their own procedures. For example, one department created a series of checklists about hotel procedures ranging from guest check-in to housekeeping.

  • An orientation about the apprenticeship program provided to all department staff helps with onboarding. It clarifies the roles of apprentices, the rotation model, and the duties of mentors to other company staff.
