Micro Mania! developed out of a conversation between VP of Student Services, Cynthia Olivo, and Speech & Theatre professor Josh Fleming after attending a seminar on racial microaggressions. Fleming had previously directed and produced a production that examined the current problem of sexual assaults on college and university campuses and Dr. Olivo had participated in Q&A sessions after each show. The show was successful and raised awareness about the issue. Micro Mania! Seeks to do the same.

While controversial, micro aggressions have become a hotly debated topic in the academic world, but the everyday slights and insults that individuals endure—about race, gender, disability, age, sexuality, and a myriad of other forms—build up over time and can greatly affect mental health, motivation, and success. This is of particular concern for students in the classroom, and it’s through raising awareness that Micro Mania! hopes to create a keener awareness for students, instructors, and anyone who has experienced these everyday occurrences.

Adult themes and language.
