Student learning outcomes (SLOs) are the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that students develop as a result of engaging in a particular course, program, or service. Faculty collaboratively develop SLOs and align course and program learning experiences with the SLOs to support students in meeting the desired outcomes. Assessments are designed and administered to verify that students are achieving the stated SLOs and the results are used to improve both teaching and learning.

At Pasadena City College, teaching and learning is supported through assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, program, and general education level. For students, SLOs provide clear and concise statements of the expected knowledge, skills, and attitudes they are supposed to demonstrate at the end of the course, program, or degree. SLOs help to make learning visible to the student.
