About the Project

This is a major construction project to demolish and replace the Armen Sarafian (U) Building, which was deemed seismically unsafe in 2012.

When completely reconstructed and refinished, the new facility will house labs, classrooms, and offices for the Health Sciences and Natural Sciences divisions. These spaces will bring together students and faculty in some of the San Gabriel Valley’s most important professions, driving our community’s culture of discovery and powering the local job market.

New building facts

  • Total square feet: 104,000
  • 5 stories
  • State funding: 80% of demolition and construction costs
  • Estimated completion: Fall 2024
