Carpentry Fundamentals
The Carpentry Fundamentals program provides students with a comprehensive foundation for entry into the construction and building trades, including pathways to union-affiliated apprenticeship programs.
Through a sequence of hands-on, noncredit courses, students gain essential knowledge in construction safety, tool use, trade awareness, and basic carpentry and building skills aligned with current industry standards.
The program introduces Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, construction site safety protocols, and emergency response training, including CPR and First Aid. Using real-world scenarios and lab-based activities, students practice core competencies such as measurement and layout, framing, foundations, building enclosure, finishing techniques, and the safe operation of hand and power tools.
This program is designed for individuals seeking preparation for union apprenticeship programs, pre-apprenticeship opportunities, including those in partnership with the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, or entry-level employment in the construction trades.
A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon completion of all required courses.
