Trustee Dr. Hilary Bradbury-Huang, Area 5

Trsutee Dr. Hilary Bradbury-HuangDr. Hilary Bradbury-Huang was elected in November 2005 to the Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees to represent area 5, which includes the cities of South Pasadena, San Marino, a large portion of Temple City and smaller portions of contiguous communities.

She is foremost a change agent, scholar, educator, writer, business consultant and editor. Her work focuses on the human and organizational dimensions of sustainable development. By profession, she is a research professor at USC, where she is also director of sustainable business research at the Center for Sustainable Cities.  Dr. Bradbury-Huang is also the principal of ARSECC.net (a not for profit organization she founded to help community activists utilize the insights of social science).

Her early career was funded by the National Science Foundation to facilitate and document the management of the sustainability challenge by multinational corporations. She was honored for her work with the Mitchell International medal for Young Sustainability Scholar. Hilary has since worked with leaders in sustainability including BP, Ford, Nike, Waste Management, and Xerox, as well as national associations like PLANET, the association of US landscapers.

Dr. Bradbury-Huang is the editor-in-chief of the international, peer- reviewed Sage journal, Action Research. She has been published in a number of academic journals and  co-edited the bestselling Handbook of Action Research (Sage, 2001, 2007). She was voted to serve on the board of the Academy of Management, division of Organizational Change and Development.

She grew up in Ireland and has lived and worked in Europe and Asia; she speaks five languages. She holds a Ph.D. from Boston College, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.  She lives with her family in South Pasadena.  Her hobbies include running and “greening” her home. Her volunteer work extends to serving on boards of local and national non profit organizations.
