The AA/AS Exam is one way you can satisfy competency requirements when applying for an Associate in Arts (AA) or an Associate in Science (AS) degree. To earn an AA or AS degree, you need to demonstrate competency in reading, written expression, and math.

You may meet this requirement by:

  1. Completing a minimum grade of “C” in each of these areas.
  2. Achieving a satisfactory score on the equivalency examination for each of the areas.

How to Sign Up

To take the exam, first, talk to your counselor about whether or not you need this test. Your counselor will give you a referral for a testing card, which you will then need to bring to the Assessment Services Office to arrange a testing time.

Taking the Test

At the time of your test you will need to bring the following:

  1. A current government issued photo ID (drivers license, DMV card, passport, green card)
  2. Signature verification

If you can’t establish proof of identity, you won’t be able to take the exam.

Receiving Your Test Results

Your test results will be mailed to you, your referring counselor, and the PCC records office within one week of taking the exam. If you do not pass the test, you will need approval from the College Petitions Committee to be able to retake it. Once approved, you can retake the test after a period of at least two weeks from when you first took the test.
