Mission

The mission of the Writing Center is to help students succeed in their English composition courses, while developing their composition, grammar, and research skills.


Student Learning Outcomes

As of January 2016, the following are the Student Learning Outcomes for our lab courses:

English 901 is a course in the development of writing skills for students in English 100.This course includes individual and small group instruction with professors and writing consultants, as well as computer-assisted learning, with the purpose of achieving the following outcomes:

  • Read critically and accurately
  • Write unified, coherent, and well-developed compositions
  • Research effectively
  • Write grammatical sentences that adhere to standard usage

English 902 is a course in the development of writing skills for students in English 400. It is also a co-requisite course: to be enrolled in this course, you must be concurrently enrolled in English 400.

The course includes individualized instruction with professors and writing consultants, as well as computer-assisted instruction, with the purpose of achieving the following outcomes:

  • Read actively
  • Write with sentence variety
  • Develop coherent, well-supported paragraphs
  • Employ successful learning and revision strategies
