Fall 2016 Award Recipients

Outstanding Student Employee Award

Learning Assistance Center

Naira Arakelyan
Naira was a part of the LAC family long before she started working here in fall of 2015--she was one of our friendly "regulars" who practically lived in the Center! Though she does get some pay, she has volunteered more hours than we could ever venture to guess, and that's just one of the ways that she has gone "above and beyond" to serve our students. Naira is a real people person and a knowledgeable, responsible employee who makes sure the Center is being taken good care of.  She also played an integral role in the startup of the Welcome Center last summer. Her major is Business Administration, and she hopes to become a CEO. Congratulations, Naira, and thank you for your leadership and excellent service!

Outstanding Student Employee Award

Computer Learning Center

Talar Torossian

Talar has worked in the CLC since July of 2015, and she has proven to be an outstanding employee who assists our diverse clientele with courage and a strong desire to help students excel. She's also highly motivated academically, having made the Dean's Honors List her first year in college with a 4.0 GPA. Talar has consistently developed her skills and taken on a leadership role to ensure the smooth operation of our labs during peak hours. She enjoys conversations that raise social awareness and is interested in computer technology. She wants to work in the business field, and she plans to become a personal finance advisor and have her own business. Congratulations, Talar, and thank you for your excellent service!

Jon McNamara
Jon brings many qualities to the table as he helps students with their papers, including admirable patience, a thorough knowledge of and ability in writing as a craft, and the flexibility to adjust his approach as needed. He models good critical thinking skills to the students that he assists. Jon has many interests, including design tech, fabrication, and robotics, and he currently is working with Facilities Services on drafting assignments for refurbishing our campus buildings. Congratulations, Jon, and thank you for your excellent service!

Russell Hizon
Russell brings a sense of humor to his support of student learning, along with patience and the ability to guide students in two very challenging subjects. He is an amazing math tutor and has been the sole support for Statistics 50 during most of the semester. His style of tutoring is to provide a hint, then give the student time to struggle with the problem, returning to check on progress and understanding. Russell is so dedicated to his work that staff have had to send him home when he was sick. He also works at our front desk. Thank you for your excellent service, Russell, and congratulations!

"Most Spirited" Award - Fall 2016

DSPS

Alejandra Garcia
Alejandra started in DSP&S in January of 2016 and immediately made a difference with her positive, "can-do" spirit.  The rapid 40% growth of testing accommodations this year could not have been supported without her organizational skills, work ethic, and above all, her big heart.  Everyone knows that Alejandra always has a smile on her face, but what they don't know is that the harder and more intense the work is, the bigger and more intense the smile is. She is a biology major and hopes to become a virologist. The DSP&S team are fortunate to have her and are confident of her future success. Congratulations, Alejandra, and thank you for your excellent service!

Marifer Yamongon
Marifer started working in DSP&S in 2014. She's a hardworking employee who has always shown support and compassion for all PCC students. Marifer is an absolute delight to have around and a team player who is always ready to help out in any way she can with a smile. DSP&S highly values the contribution she has made. Her major is Medical Assisting. Congratulations, Marifer, and thank you for your excellent support!
