Occupational Skills Certificates
Earning an Occupational Skills Certificate develops your job skills in a special area of occupational education in a short period of time. Successful completion may certify that you are prepared with job entry skills leading to a full Certificate of Achievement program, or skills to upgrade or advance in an existing career.
Earning a Commercial Music Occupational Skill Certificate will prepare you for employment in a variety of commercial music and music production settings. You will learn practical skills in applying musical skills in audio production, audio signal flow, using recording equipment, signal processing and audio editing and post-production. With these skills, you can begin a career as a sound designer assistant, sound editor assistant, automation dialogue replacement assistant and sound recordist.
Recommended Course Sequence
You can complete the Commercial Music Certificate in three semesters by following our recommended course sequence.
- Music 93 - The Music Business
- Music 96A - Introduction to Music Recording and Production
- Music 96B - Music Recording and Production Applications
- Music 96C - Music Recording and Production Workshop
- Elective Course (1-3 units)
- Electives: Complete six units of electives.
The Music and Movement Education for Young Children Occupational Skills Certificate will give you valuable hands-on training in music and movement education specifically for early childhood (newborn to eight years old). You will learn a variety of musical activities and games in four major areas - singing, movement, playing instruments, and listening. With these skills, you will be prepared to teach music and movement in preschools, child care centers, primary classrooms, and private studios.
