Reading Program Mission Statement
Pasadena City College’s Reading Program helps students develop reading skills that contribute to the achievement of their academic, intellectual, and professional/vocational goals. The program is committed to providing a cohesive, sequential, and comprehensive curriculum that promotes a student’s progress. The Reading Program also seeks to foster in students the habit of reading for pleasure.
Reading Program Objectives
The main objective is to prepare students to succeed in reading at college level. This will help students to complete their basic skills classes in a timely manner, move forward with their educational goals, and get the degree or certificate they desire. Finally additional personnel, technology, and funding are key to success in all these endeavors.
Students will be able to:
- recognize the reading and writing connections.
- undertake the cognitive activities of planning, drafting, organizing, revising and monitoring of meaning in both reading and writing.
- summarize and evaluate college level readings and apply critical reading skills to the interpretation and analysis of ideas from various types of academic readings
