Composition


PCC offers a variety of composition courses to help you prepare for and develop your college-level writing skills. This includes practicing writing in various genres and developing argumentative, analytical, and research strategies. Composition courses must be taken in sequential order.

Where you begin the sequence is based on your H.S. transcript (GPA).


Corequisite: English 901

Pre-Transfer Level: Focuses on reading comprehension and essay development.

STACC is for students who are currently placed in English 100 and aims to compress the time-to-completion of Freshman Composition.

Any eligible student is able to register for a STACC section of English 100.

Transfer Level: Freshman composition; focuses on reading and writing expository and argumentative essays, including a research paper

Prerequisite: 

  • a "C" or better in English 100 or
  • a "C" or better in ESL 33b

English 1A with 110 Support is for students who are currently placed in English 100 or English 1A, and want to complete English 1A in one semester with additional support.

Transfer Level: Advanced composition that focuses on writing analytic essays on literature

Prerequisite: 

  • a "C" or better in English 1A
  • Score of 3 or Higher on AP English Language & Composition or AP English Literature & Composition
 

Transfer Level: Advanced composition that focuses on critical thinking, argumentative texts, and writing argumentative research papers

Prerequisite: 

  • a "C" or better in English 1A
  • Score of 3 or Higher on AP English Language & Composition or AP English Literature & Composition
