The 2005-2006 Ujima Students Posing

What is the Ujima Program?

The Ujima Program is a one-year transfer program open to all students. The focus of the Ujima Program is the personal development, academic success and transfer of African American students. Ujima provides an environment that seeks to nurture your development and connection to the greater academic community by serving as a conduit for your personal, social and academic adjustment during college.  The word “Ujima”, pronounced, (oo-JEE-ma), is a Swahili word that means “collective work” and “responsibility”. The content of the Ujima Program includes extensive guidance, counseling, class instruction, mentoring, tutoring, community service, cultural events, and leadership opportunities.
