Learning Assistance Center

Special Equipment

The Learning Assistance Center has a computer station that has a large monitor and has Kurzweil software, which may be used for print enlargement of any textbook.

The Kurzweil program may only be used by those trained and certified in its operation, and students must bring their certificate with them as proof of their training.

Phonic Ears are available for same-day checkout and return.  These devices enhance sound, helping hearing impaired students better track with the instructor's lecture.

A Daisy Reader (Plextor PTN 1) is available for on site use only, once students have training and a signed contract to use it from DSP&S.  This device reads textbooks out loud.

A flatbed scanner is available to all students to use.  However, that station has no Internet connection, so it is important that students bring some type of media to save their scanned files on.

More specialized equipment is available in the Assistive Technology Center (ATC) through Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSP&S) on the second floor.  For more information, see their link to the right under "Additional PCC Resources."
