Using Textbooks
Textbook Reserves
Required or recommended textbooks for PCC classes are located in the Library's central lobby. Reserve textbooks are provided for all students to share equally and are "Library Use Only" (cannot be checked out of the library). Reserve Textbooks should be a back-up and not considered a substitute for purchasing your own copy. Textbooks can be purchased from the PCC Bookstore.
The textbooks are located together to make them easily available for quick reference and studying in the Library. The Library usually carries one copy of each textbook, but is not able to provide a copy of every textbook used at PCC due to budget constraints. If a class has several sections, the Library will try to buy more than one copy. The Library does not purchase workbooks and laboratory books.
Additional copies donated by departments or instructors are always welcome! Faculty are encouraged to work with their librarian Division Liaison to ensure the Library has the resources required or recommended by a class.
Faculty Reserves
Some instructors place their personal copies of books, workbooks, laboratory manuals etc on "Faculty Reserve" for students to check out from the Library. These items are located behind the Circulation Desk under your instructor's last name. You can search the Faculty Reserves section of the Library Catalog to see if your instructor has placed any items behind the Circulation Desk for a class. Each instructor designates his/her own rules about these items (i.e. whether they can be taken out of the library or how long the items can be checked out for). A Circulation staff member can tell you what rules have been established for your instructor's materials.
Telecourse and Math Videos/DVDs
Telecourses and Math Videos/DVDs are located in the Faculty Reserves area at the Circulation Desk and have separate policies.
