THE 2008-2009 SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDS

Each spring, the Pasadena City College Special Recognition Committee carries out the important work of determining the recipients of the annual Campus Special Recognition and Community Special Recognition Honors. The committee’s membership includes students, faculty, staff, administration, and Foundation representatives. The Special Recognition Honors are bestowed on individuals and organizations in recognition of extraordinary and exemplary service rendered to the college.

This year, the 2009 Community Special Recognition Award goes to Mr. Bill Bogaard, the mayor of the City of Pasadena. The Board of Trustees resolution conferring this award acknowledges Mr. Bogaard as a staunch supporter of the institution’s mission and values. The resolution goes to note Mr. Bogaard’s outstanding service to the Pasadena community as an advocate for helping atrisk youths through education; and as the mayor of Pasadena his dedication to all levels of education through his Pasadena City of Learning Task Force. Mr. Bogaard has been active in the reform of public schools, the strengthening of cultural institutions, and the enhancement of Pasadena’s neighborhoods.

The 2009 Campus Special Recognition Award goes to Ms. Virginia Dedeaux, supervisor of Pasadena City College’s Student Business Services. The Board of Trustees resolution conferring this award on Ms. Dedeaux recognizes her 38 years of service to Pasadena City College. Ms. Dedeaux is a distinguished graduate of Pasadena City College and has been the guardian of all of the students’ auxiliary accounts in the Student Bank. Ms. Dedeaux managed 110 student scholarship accounts for 25 years, totaling approximately $4.5 million at its peak, and continues to oversee the 300 Trust & Agency accounts at the college. Ms. Dedeaux has made prudent financial decisions and investments that have benefited the students of Pasadena City College through the annual scholarship programs administered by the college. She has been active in fundraising on campus the past 20 years through the annual TABE Thanksgiving raffle and Scholarship Breakfast. Ms. Dedeaux has spent her entire career at Pasadena City College and continues to tirelessly work on behalf the students.

Join us in congratulating this year ’s Campus and Community Special Recognition recipients.
